Handling Large Number of Categories in a SSRS Pie Chart

Have you come across a scenario, where your pie chart shows the distributions of data based on a particular metric, say product, and over a period of time when the number of products increase, then the Pie Chart has to show all the products, which results in a very cluttered Pie Chart and makes it difficult to digest the information presented, leaving your chart in a non usable state. Having large number of categories means that the Pie contains a large number of slices (one per category) and as the number of slices grow, chart becomes less and less intuitive to the users and at some point, it gets into a state, where no one can use it to derive meaning conclusions. The problem that I am talking can be better explained using the below pie chart sample:

To deal with this kind of scenarios in a SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) report, there are different options which I will be discussing in this article. To get a more clear picture of the problem and the possible solutions, and to read the full story, follow this link: Handling a Large Number of Categories in a SQL Server Reporting Services Pie Chart.

Forgot to add attachment in your email? Don’t worry! Gmail reminds you of that :-)

Last day I was sending an email to one of my friends and it was supposed to contain an attachment and I wrote in the email body something like “Attached is the…”. But I forgot to attach the document which I had planned to attach. To my surprise, Gmail read the word Attached in my email and right away gave a warning asking if I am missing an attachment :-)

Missing Attachment Warning in Gmail

I liked this cool feature which can help us avoid missing attachments in emails :-)
