Display the Solution Name in Solution Explorer by Default in SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS)

All of us working on SSIS, SSAS, SSRS etc., use SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) on a daily basis. In most cases once instance of BIDS can be seen always open on a Microsoft BI Developer.
 
When you create a project in BIDS (Any project like SSIS, SSAS etc.) and open it, you will only see only the Project Name in the Solution Explorer whenever your solution contains only one project which you have opened. Now if you want to always show the Solution Name in the Solution Explorer irrespective of how many projects are contained in the solution, follow the below mentioned steps.
 
1. Open a your Solution containing single Project in BIDS. Now when you open the Solution, you can only see the Project Name in the Solution Explorer as shown below.
 
 
 
2. Now go to Tools Menu and Select Options as shown below.
 
 
 
3. In the Options window, nagivate to Projects and Solutions node in the left navigation pane and select General. Now, check the checkbox next to Always show solution option as shown below.
 
 
 
4. Now if you look at the Solution Explorer, you can see that the Solution Name is also displayed along with the Project Name even if there is only one Project in the Solution as shown below.
 
 
It is as simple as that. Options window offers various other options which can help you customize your environment and also improve the usability.
