Tips ‘N’ Tricks – Windows – Shortcut to View the Properties of a File or Folder

Viewing the properties of a File or Folder is a common action that all of us perform. Here is a quick way to view the properties of a File or a Folder in Windows. This is the quickest way that I have known so far.

Regular Approach (3 Steps)

  1. Locate the File or Folder
  2. Right-Click on the File or Folder
  3. Select Properties from Context Menu to bring up the Properties Window

Shortcut Approach (2 Steps)

  1. Locate the File or Folder
  2. Hold the Alt Key and Double-Click on the File or Folder to bring up the Properties Window

You would see the following type of Properties Window using either of the above approaches.

This approach has been tested on Windows XP and Windows 7 Operating Systems.
