In this series on SQL Server 2012, we have seen various enhancements in different components/aspects of SQL Server. Following is a list of few additional changes in SQL Server 2012.

A brand new edition called “Business Intelligence Edition” has been introduced and various other changes have been made in Editions and Licensing. More Information:

Certifications

Certification paths have been fully re-designed in SQL Server 2012. Now, there are 3 levels of certifications as Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), and Microsoft Certified Solutions Master (MSCM). Certification path is as shown below.

Here are some of the highlights of of these certifications (certifications in general, going forward):

  • Certifications are valid for period of 3 years from the date of certification.
  • Certifications, unlike previous versions of certifications, are not specific to product versions like SQL Server 2005, 2008, and 2012 etc.

Discontinued Features

Operating System

  • Windows XP, Windows 2003, & Windows 2008 RTM Operating Systems are Not Supported!

Database Engine

  • SQL Server 2000 (Database Compatibility Level 90) is no more supported.

SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

  • No more support for Maintaining, Migrating, & Executing DTS 2000 Packages.
  • Data Viewer no more supports following types: histogram, scatter plot, & column chart
